Since 2006, the city of Barcelona has been hosting the Mobile World Congress (MWC). The most important technologycal event of the world where the cutting edge technology, products and services from the mobile industry shows off publicly their potential. At the same time and in the same place, Barcelona also hosts the 4 Years From Now (4YFN), an originally created innitiative by the Mobile World Capital Barcelona and now integrated inside the MWC. Conceived as a meeting point for the start-ups of the world, it has been surpassing their own expecations year by year.
The MWC’s impact in the city has been huge. According to the report published by Mobile World Capital Barcelona this 2023, today Barcelona and their sorrounding area has nearly one hundred technological hubs. And that number has been doubled in the last 5 years. Furthermore, nearly 90% of them come from EU (65%) and USA (23%) and one of the main reasons to stablish in Barcelona is the combination between local talent and the capacity to attract international talent. From all these hubs, the most important sectors are: gaming (32%), industrial sector (21%) and health (13%). And the services they provide are mostly from these fields: Mobile App Creation (60%), User Experience Design (57%), Artificial Intelligence (55%) and Web Development (54%).
The MWC and BCN is a success story and there are still many pages to be written together. The landing from Amsterdam of the Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) Congress in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and its success at BCN is no coincidence. The combination of both congresses (MWC and ISE) establishes the city, and Catalonia by extension, for the next decade as the worldwide crossroad between the audiovisual industry and the mobile industry to meet and walk together into the future.
